Capsule Geology

The Fishing Rock (Turn) occurrence is located about 70 kilometres east of Dease Lake.

The showing is hosted in an Alaskan-type ultramafic intrusive complex. This zoned complex consists of a dunite core and surrounding peripheral peridotites, pyroxene-rich peridotite, and olivine pyroxenite with maximum dimensions of 3 by 8.2 kilometres. It was intruded in the Late Triassic into Upper Paleozoic(?) and/or Triassic(?) metavolcanic and metasedimentary rocks of the Quesnel Terrane. It is in faulted contact on the east and north with slate and phyllite of the Ordovician to Mississippian Road River Group (Ancestral North America).

Net-textured to disseminated sulphides occur in peridotite. Some massive vein-like pyrrhotite-chalcopyrite is seen to replace fibrous serpentine.

At the end of 2004, Hard Creek Nickel Corp. reported drillholes 04-41 and 04-70 were collared near the Fishing Rock showing to test for a strike extension to the disseminated to net-textured sulphide mineralization. Hole 04-45, drilled on the access road to the DJ zone, intersected several narrow intervals of anomalous platinum and palladium, including 4.0 metres, from 13.6 to 17.6 metres, averaging 0.153 gram per tonne platinum and 0.124 gram per tonne palladium (Press Release - Hard Creek Minerals Corporation, December 13, 2004).

See the Turnagain occurrence (104I 014) located 650 metres northeast, and the Horsetrail occurrence (104I 119) located 690 metres southwest, for further details and history of this and other nearby showings that Falconbridge Nickel Mines worked as a single property from 1966 to 1973.

Bren-Mar Resources Ltd. worked the property between 1996 and 1999.
